Feels like Thanksgiving!

Feels like Thanksgiving!

With the leaves almost fully gone and winter chill taking its time to settle into the air, warmth and comfort become essential. Thanksgiving becomes the all-encompassing expectation for such comfort: warm foods, tones of brown layered tastefully, and quality family time (although that may give some a chill). Like all holidays, Thanksgiving becomes a fashion statement. Whether attempting to finally make a good impression on your in-laws, demonstrating the ‘glow-up’ you’ve had since going to college, or simply finding joy in dressing for a challenge, Thanksgiving is the holiday of serving food and looks. Because of this American classic expectation, I tend to pile my clothes into a week of Thanksgiving outfits, all ideal for different temperatures and levels of casualness. In this blog, I demonstrate a multitude of outfits, each fitting for a different temperature.

Thanksgiving color schemes almost seem to match the food we eat, the roasted turkey’s brown glaze the main color entree, the cream-colored mashed potatoes off-setting the darkness of the turkey, and the pops of orange and red a tribute to pumpkin pie and cranberry sauce. To start off, warmth made a comeback this week with a high of 60s, meaning that extreme layering is not ideal. Of course, this has never pushed me to shy away from a sweater. I find on warmer days when I still want to embrace fall fully, pairing a sweater with a skirt is the perfect way to not overheat, but also not feel too chilled. For this look, I bring to the Thanksgiving table two options: the classic black skirt or the washed denim skirt. Yes, a brown skirt is also a wonderful choice for Thanksgiving, but I have not yet attained that clothing item. Both paired with my brown boots, I find that denim is a wonderful way to ‘dress down’ an outfit, making it more casual, while the sleek simplicity of a little black skirt is a great way to keep an outfit elevated. As you can see below, I pair my black skirt with a dark brown sweater layered with a white tank top underneath, compared to my denim skirt that I pair with a white sweater with brown stripes.

A look that, in my eyes, seems to speak confidence makes her appearance in the low to mid 50s. Thanksgiving is the perfect time to wear a layer that is easily shed, one to throw on to take a walk with your cousins or to take off as discussion heats up over dinner. While still following the unenforced Thanksgiving color code, I found that my brown leather jacket was perfect for this festive layering. As you might have guessed, begrudgingly so perhaps, I did pair this with my brown boots again. But, not only are these brown boots such a closet essential that they consistently make an appearance in my outfits, but also because they are the only brown pair of shoes I own. I pair my outfit saviors with a light wash pair of jeans and a white long-sleeved henley.

Of course, what is a holiday without comfort? Whether throwing this outfit on while watching the parade or cooking dinner, this outfit centralizes comfort without the remorse of looking unstylish. For mid-40s, I suggest layers that are inherently warm, such as a cardigan or fluffy zip-up. In this outfit, I am able to still feel festive due to the pumpkin hue of the cardigan and cranberry color of the soft leggings. The leggings material makes it teeter between qualifying as sweatpants or not, allowing me to receive the comfort of sweatpants and the upgraded look of leggings. I style them with a black long sleeve, UGGs, and a black headband to tie everything together.

Thats all for this Temperature Edit! Stay stylish!
