When its Not Cold, But Certainly Not Warm…

The elusive time between fall and winter gives room for faltering, fashion wise. With thick coats still weeks away and the comfortability in t-shirts long gone, it often leaves us scratching our heads with what exactly to wear. With the fall color palette (orange, burgundy, brown and the occasional deep green) becoming our bible, its a struggle finding clothes that fulfill this color crisis as well as the needs of comfort. In this blog, we tackle the intimidating high 50s and low 60s, showing that fashion truly can be in any temperature.

For me leather has become a staple of fall, the sleekness and its ability to be lightweight yet equally insulated. Casual yet can be dressed up, and always chic, leather jackets are the it girl of fall. While all leather is beautiful, brown leather has become my addiction. Oversized and draping, I find comfort in the knowledge no matter the thickness of my top underneath, my jacket will always zip. On a low 60s day, the leather jacket provides a protection against wind and chill in the morning, zipped high up the neck. Yet in the afternoon, it lays open, providing the opportunity to offset the colors with ones top underneath. Popularly produced in many stores and always available in hoards at ones local thrift, the simple leather jacket is affordable and versatile for the many temperatures the fall season holds.

I often pair my leather jacket with brown boots to match, specifically my Miranda 14 Frye boots. With a height of 14 inches, they are able to dutifully hide beneath flared or loose jeans while also adding a spark to any outfit with a skirt. At times I even find myself pairing them with a dress (although I wonder if that is because they really elevate the look, or simply for my love of the boots). It is suggested in every offhand statement that boots are essentials for fall, yet I will take the leap and suggest that brown boots are essential for fall. While the black boot is also a staple, I will admit, the brown boot provides a subtleness that the extreme darkness of the black boots lack. While I do love a heel, any height or level of the brown boot is trendy. As you can see, I paired the boots with my leather jacket, allowing me to embrace fall without the presence of cold.

The key to fall, in my opinion, is wearing a layer that you can zip or wrap tightly around yourself to brave against the fall breeze. While I do love my leather jacket, I certainly do not consider it my uniform and enjoy discovering new items of comfort. The cropped cardigan is a versatile and chic addition to any closet, readily available to be business casual or dressed down to simply be cozy. The easily accessible item also provides a large variety of colors, neutrals or vibrance determining different looks for the day. While I do prefer to leave my cropped cardigan unbuttoned, the sliver of an undershirt upgrading the outfits interest, on windy days it can be buttoned tightly for warmth. I paired my red cropped cardigan with a white slightly cropped long sleeve , blue jeans and UGGs.

You may sigh UGG at my next over popularized fashion item, but the UGG really is a blessing to me for the fall season. When my feet become tired of the height of heels and the restriction of laces, UGGs embrace my feet with softness and warmth. While difficult to dress up, UGGs are perfect for a day of comfort and can even go with jeans and a sweater. While they are expensive, the popularization of them means that dupes are everywhere and at times even more comfortable than the authentic UGG. In the image below, I style my UGG ultra minis in the color sand with my red cropped cardigan, a white long sleeve and blue jeans.

Throughout the week, even I begin to yearn for a break from the starchiness of jeans and for just plain comfort. On these occasions, I typically gravitate towards leggings or sweatpants. Yet, I still have the urge to look put together, which I never seem to be able to accomplish in my many baggy hoodies. For this mood and low 60s weather, the oversized cardigan is perfection. With a draping silhouette that makes it easy to wrap fully around myself, as well as the soft fabric of the knitting, I always come back to my oversized cardigan. In this I feel cozy yet also still stylish, knowing I can easily shed the leather if I begin to overheat. I style my oversized pumpkin colored cardigan with black flared leggings, UGGs and a gray longsleeve.
